INTRODUCTION:
This book describes the WWII experiences and the adventures of Lieutenant Joseph A. Peterburs, who, during his combat tour was assigned to the 20th Fighter Group, 55th Fighter Squadron, Kings Cliff, England from November 1944 to April, 1945.

The essential information in this book was recorded by the author in notes and short manuscripts shortly after he returned from the war in 1945-46 when the events were fresh in his memory. As years went by and communication technology improved, new information was acquired and the original data was updated and corrected. With the advent of personal computers, the Internet and email, research and contacts became more readily available and the author was able to interact with European researchers who were invaluable in providing a wealth of information concerning the events of 10 April 1945.

Werner Dietrich of Burg, Germany provided information concerning the location of Peterburs' aircraft, it's excavation and later determining it was Walter Schuck the author had engaged on 10 April 1945.

Mario Schulze from Oranienburg, Germany put Peterburs in contact with Technical Sergeant Paul Krup and Staff Sergeant Frank E. Lewis. Both men were shot down the same day and were held in the same prisoner of war camp as Peterburs. Additionally, Schulze provided technical information concerning the 10 April 1945 raid on Oranienburg and the subsequent strafing of Schonwalde airfield. He later determined that the FW-200 Peterburs destroyed was part of Adolf Hitler's fleet of Condors.

Crister Bergstrom of Eskilstuna, Sweden researched the events of 10 April 1945 from the perspective of both Lt. Peterburs and Oberlt. Schuck. In anticipation of co-authoring a book with Peterburs, Bergstrom conducted extensive research and interviews with participants in Peterburs' 49th and last mission.

Schuck's conversations with Peterburs clarified many of the details associated with this mission.

The 20th Fighter Group Association Historical Office provided background information and photographs for this publication.

Additionally, much of the information has been substantiated by the author's research of the 20th Fighter Group's pre and post mission intelligence reports and Peterburs' official Air Force flying record (Form 5)

Lois F. Gormley, a personal friend, did the fine tune editing of the book for which I am extremely grateful.

That is the introduction in the book. The book is 73 pages of WWII memories of Joseph Peterburs. Pre-war, the historical 49th mission with the first meeting of German Ace Walter Schuck and post-war including the second meeting with Walter 60 years later! The book has some great pictures from Peterburs' private collection. The book sells for $25 plus $2 for shipping and handling. Shipping is free if two or more are purchased! This book is a must read for any WWII enthusiast!
